WHIRED, founded in 2000, is focused on recognizing and celebrating the broad range of people of different races and ethnic backgrounds who live and work in West Hartford.

We welcome the increasing racial and ethnic diversity in our town.  Our goal is to create and ensure a welcoming and inclusive community for every child and adult in West Hartford.

We are committed to ongoing community dialogue about challenges of racial and ethnic diversity.  We are equally committed to educating the community about the benefits of diversity and social harmony.  Potential solutions will be addressed collaboratively.

We will work to build a strong foundation of people committed to racial and ethnic equality and social justice, enhancing the quality of life and work for everyone by:

Furthering communication among people of different races and cultures who live and/or work in West Hartford, so that racial and ethnic issues will be discussed with sensitivity and honesty.

Addressing these issues collaboratively with various local groups and organizations and taking specific actions directed at improving racial, cultural, and ethnic relations.
